Travel Tips -- When to Use a Travel Agent:

  • Travel agents have access to special offers and pricing that are not available to consumers directly.  This means that a good travel agent is usually able to get you a better deal than you can find for yourself.  One exception is airline-only bookings -- you can usually get better pricing directly from an airline and can sometimes find coupon codes or discounts.
  • To ensure the best price for your vacation, we highly recommend contacting a travel agent if you're booking any of the following:
  • Cruises
  • Tour packages
  • Rental Cars
  • Hotel rooms
  • Air + Hotel packages (vs. Air only)
  • Resort packages with additional services/tickets
  • Understand that travel agents work on commission, which is paid by the travel companies and not you.  Many travel agents are able to adjust their commission in order to give you a competitive deal.  As a family of avid travelers, we often cut our commissions to provide competitive pricing for our customers.  We have also advised many potential customers of online resources where they could get better prices than what is available via travel agent resources.
  • Planning travel takes time, so you might consider letting someone else help you do the legwork.
  • Many travel agents specialize in different types of travel -- Disney travel, cruises, resort travel, etc.  Try to find one who is well versed in what you're looking for because they can provide valuable ADVICE in addition to simply booking your trip.
  • If you aren't familiar with the place(s) that you are traveling or are planning a complex multi-location trip, a travel agent can do the legwork for you and research options that will make your trip successful.
  • If you're uncomfortable booking online or simply like the personal attention of someone assist you with your needs, a travel agent is a great asset.
  • If you have any difficulty on your trip, a travel agent has a vested interest in your happiness and is there to help.  The best advertisement for travel agents is word-of-mouth from satisfied customers, and a good agent will do whatever possible to ensure you book with them again!
