Travel with Children -- Nap/Sleeping
Tips:
- Where feasible, try to keep your children as close to their normal schedule as possible.
If they nap, schedule some time for naps or make sure you have the stroller handy
so that they can sleep there will you tour the sites.
- If you have a bedtime routine (bathing, reading, singing, etc.), try to continue
this while traveling. We bring along a lullaby CD to play for our children because
they sleep with music on at home.
- Bring your child's favorite doll/blanket/etc. for cuddling.
- Be careful not to feed your kids dessert or sugary drinks/foods too close to bedtime.
It can -- and will -- keep them up later!
- If your kids won't go to sleep (ours like to sit up and giggle at each other), turn
off the lights and provide complete silence in the hotel room for 15 minutes.
Once they're out, you can watch TV, talk quietly, etc. -- if you haven't also fallen
asleep. :)
- You might consider letting your smaller children sleep in the bed with you, or at
least fall asleep there. A few minutes of rubbing our daughters' backs puts them
right out.
